Religious, Social, and Cultural Functions
The Quran lays emphasis on modesty and hence Islamic clothing for men and women are generally designed to cover the entire body. Men cover their heads as well as their bodies till their knees and wear loose outerwear in public. Another religious function is the hajj, in which Muslim men wear specific kind of clothes. Men wear two seamless lengths of white cloth and a waistband, which signifies that all are equal. During the hajj, men do not cover their heads while praying, but they need to cut their hair or shave their heads on completing this visit to hajj.
Practical Functions/Occasions
For practical or day-do-day activities, men wear the long, loose-fitting garments. These are particularly comfortable in the hot, dry climates. Muslim men also wear the traditional head coverings, which shield the head and neck. Muslim men residing in hilly areas wear woollen garments for warmth. For regular purposes, Muslim men also wear pants and shirts, like their western counterparts. Traditional dresses like the jallabiyah, thobe (robe) are all-time favourites for all occasions.....
